Jacky mathekga - chairman

Jacky has extensive management experience in both the public and private sectors in South Africa and Sub-Saharan Africa. He has a deep understanding of both the Pension Fund as well as the Health Insurance Industries and has been a pragmatic proponent of building solutions that facilitate inclusivity in both sectors and their members alike.

His professional career includes a number of years spent at Ernst & Young (E&Y) South Africa, responsible for Legal, Company Secretarial and Partner Affairs. He served as an Executive Assistant to the CEO and was also ex-officio sitting in the Executive Committee and Board of E&Y. Ernst & Young is an accounting and auditing firm involved in the business of assurance, tax, transactions and general advisory services.

Thereafter, he took on the role of Principal Officer (‘PO”) of Discovery Health Medical Scheme, the largest Health Insurance Scheme in Africa, where he was instrumental in the development and implementation of the Fund’s strategy and governance. For six years, he served as an an ex-officio on the Board of Trustees of the Fund and all its sub-committees by virtue of his position as a PO.

During this period, he also served as a Non-Executive Director on the Board of Directors of the Board of Healthcare Funders Southern Africa (‘BHF’). BHF is an association of medical schemes in Southern Africa that represented 95% of medical Schemes in Southern Africa. It is on the same board that he served as a Deputy Chairperson of the Policy and Regulatory Sub-Committee.

In 2010, Jacky joined NMG Consultants and Actuaries Holdings (SA) Proprietary Limited (“NMG”) as an Executive Director responsible for Business Development and Growth. He was appointed the CEO of NMG in June 2016. NMG is a multi-national financial services advisory and intermediary organization, whose South African operations enjoy a 30 year history.

In September 2022, with a Vision to build a vertically integrated financial services business including a focused alternative investments boutique firm, Jacky founded Moruo Private Markets Proprietary Limited.

Jacky holds qualifications in Bachelor of Arts; Bachelor of Laws; and Master of Laws (Tax) from the University of Witwatersrand.
